Treatment and Surgery of Impacted Wisdom Teeth

A tooth which does not erupt completely as required, is termed as impact teeth. This could be mainly because of insufficient space in the jaw or because of improper angulation of the tooth. Impacted wisdom teeth are a common factor; this problem persists among many people. It is normally painless and does not cause any problems. Wisdom teeth are the last of the teeth to emerge.

Problems that are associated with impacted teeth are tenderness, frequent swelling, partial opening of the mouth, constant pain, bad breath and unpleasant taste. A partially erupted tooth often causes infection as food accumulates below the gums and causes bacterial growth. This results in trismus, bad breath, swelling and pain.

If the case is serious jaw bone surgery may be recommended by the dentist or just pain relievers or mouthwashes could soothen the gums and do the trick. In most cases impacted tooth need to be surgical removed. Normally a person needs to take 5-7 days of leave when he is undergoing surgery and treatment for the impacted wisdom teeth.  This gives the patient sufficient time to recuperate from a swollen face. Treatment and surgery of the impacted wisdom tooth is either done by dental surgeon or an oral maxillofacial surgeon. An oral maxillofacial surgeon will probably work out more expensive than a dental surgeon. Proper medication and instructions given by the dentist must be strictly adhered to by the patient after the surgery.
